Travel Bugs and Trackables

It wouldn't be an event without travel bugs.  GeoWoodstock is no exception.  Past GeoWoodstock events have seen thousands of travel bugs pass hands on the day of the event.

In order to handle a large amount of travelers in a short time the following guidelines will be used:

  • Travel bugs will not be registered into or out of the Travel Bug Exchange Area.
  • Cachers are responsible for dropping off any travel bug they logged into the event at the designated Travel Bug Exchange Area or passing it on to another cacher.
  • It is the responsibility of the cacher who retrieves the traveler to log its retrieval on geocaching.com.
  • GeoWoodstock X, its staff or volunteers are not responsible for travelers logged into this event.
  • Travel bugs dropped at the Travel Bug Exchange Area should be packaged in a fresh plastic zip style bag.  Bags should include the following:
    • Printed trackable page.
    • Paper or index card providing the traveler's mission code.  Mission codes identify where the traveler wants to go.
    • Mission Codes:
AW     = No specific mission or task specific mission.  Can go anywhere to complete a specific
mission.  List the specific task in 1 or 2 words.  Example: National Parks, all states,
                         state capitals, etc.
IN/KY      = Trackables wishing to stay in IN or KY
SE      = Southeast States (SC, GA, FL, AL, TN, MS)
NE      = Northeast States (ME, VT, NH, CT, RI, MA, PA, NJ, NY)
MA     = Mid-Atlantic States (NC, VA, WV, MD, DE, DC)
SC      = South Central States (LA, AR, TX, OK, KS, MO)
MW     = Midwest States (MI, WI, IL, OH)
NP      = Northern Plains States (IA, MN, NE, ND, CO, SD, WY)
SW     = Southwest States (CA, NM, AZ, UT, NV)
NW     = Northwest States (WA, OR, ID, MT, AK)
           CAN    = Canada (East, West)
EUA    = Europe, Africa, Middle East
PAC    = Pacific Regions (Hawaii, Asia, Australia)
LAM    = Latin America (Caribbean, Mexico, Central America, South America)
  • Individual travelers will be exchanged for one (1) ticket.  Each ticket can be exchanged for another traveler.  Tickets are not for use in any raffle.  They are for exchange of travel bug only.  As you leave the Travel Bug Exchange Area, you will be asked to turn in one (1) ticket for each travel bug you take.
  • Those who did not bring travel bugs for exchange will be given an opportunity to pick up travel bugs if any remain in the Travel Bug Exchange Area after 3:00PM on Saturday.
  • Due to the high number of travel bugs, discovering travelers is not allowed in the Travel Bug Exchange Area.
  • A limited number of larger travel bugs will be set aside at the owner's request for discovery.  Travel bugs placed in the assigned Discovery Area are placed at the owner's risk.  Owner's can pick up their travelers after 3:00PM on Saturday.
    • Travel bug drop off times are:
Friday, May 25, 2012 from 6:00PM to 9:00PM at Friday Night Social & Registration
A table will be available so trackables can be dropped off only, to accommodate cachers who
want to head out early Saturday morning.  Tickets will be handed out, but trackables will not
be available for pick-up until Saturday.
    • Trading times are:
Saturday, May 26, 2012 from 10:00AM to 3:00PM.  Travel Bug Exchange Area closes at 4:00PM
or when all travelers are gone
